Expert Guidance and Procedure Overview

By Pass Surgery, or CABG (Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting), replaces damaged heart arteries with vessels from elsewhere in the body. It’s necessary when coronary arteries are severely narrowed or blocked due to coronary artery disease.

At Chirayu Superspeciality Hospital, we provide thorough guidance for preparing for heart by pass surgery. Our Cardiology specialists will review your health history and medications during pre-operative consultations. It’s crucial to disclose past surgeries and medications in detail. Tests such as blood samples, chest X-ray, angiogram, and electrocardiogram ensure a precise assessment of your health.

Bypass surgery bridges damaged or blocked heart arteries using blood vessels from your forearm, chest, or leg. The procedure is performed under general anesthesia for your comfort and involves a chest incision to access the heart and coronary arteries.

After preparing for surgery, there are two options: your heart can be stopped for 30 to 90 minutes while a machine adds oxygen or pumps oxygen-rich blood, or surgery can proceed without stopping the heart. After grafting the new vessel, the surgeon closes the breastbone with stitches. The procedure typically takes 5 to 7 hours, followed by recovery and observation in the ICU.

Bypass surgery, also known as Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting (CABG), is a procedure to replace damaged or blocked arteries in the heart with blood vessels from another part of the body.

Patients with severe coronary artery disease, where the arteries are significantly narrowed or blocked, may need bypass surgery to improve blood flow to the heart.

A surgeon takes a healthy blood vessel from your leg, arm, or chest and connects it to the blocked coronary artery, bypassing the blocked section to improve blood flow.

Risks include infection, bleeding, heart attack, stroke, and reactions to anaesthesia, though serious complications are rare.

The surgery typically lasts between 3 to 6 hours, depending on the number of arteries being bypassed and the patient’s condition.
